My Vegan Story
Take me back two years and I never would have thought I would be vegan let alone starting a vegan blog!
So where did it all start?
I grew up it a family that ate meat, dairy, fish and eggs, without batting an eyelid about where these products came from. Growing up with a big meat-eating family it was "normal" and my favourite meal was even a really rare steak!
I spent hundreds of pounds of leather handbags and beauty products that had been tested on animals with out even realising the suffering that went into the items I loved. I really had no idea and to say I was oblivious to everything would be an understatement!
I grew up in the country surrounded by farm land. I love animals and even when I was little I wish I had lived on a farm. I knew that meat came from animals, but I never really but the missing pieces together about what happened between the animals I saw in the field and the food on my plate.
It wasn't until I turned 20 that my eating habits changed. One night I'd dreamt about pigs in a slaughter house. I've never been to one and I'm still not sure what made me dream that.
The following day that was it! I stopped eating meat and became vegetarian, well pescatarian actually as occasionally I would eat fish.
I spent a good year and a half being pescatarian. I was happy, healthy and felt like I was doing the right thing. I thought what harm is drinking milk and eating eggs doing to animals, they aren't being killed for it? Oh was I wrong!
I'd watched the Veganville series on BBC in floods of tears, realising that being vegetarian was just as hurtful to animals as eating meat. And January this year, I decided that was it and I went vegan!
It's been 3 months now and I have felt my healthiest. My skin has even started to clear up and I reckon that has been a partly due to cutting out dairy.
So welcome to my journey, I am not an expert or nutritionist but I hope to share my stories, recipes and experiences along the way!
